Printable Operation Instruction for Attendants & Volunteers

1. General Safety & Best Practices (All Equipment)

These rules apply to all equipment, from a small game to a large inflatable.

  • Supervision is Mandatory: A responsible adult (18+) must actively supervise all equipment, especially inflatables, at all times while they are in use.
  • Clear the Area: Ensure the operating area is free of hazards, including sharp objects, sticks, rocks, fire pits, and any debris.
  • Monitor Weather: Do not operate any outdoor equipment, especially inflatables, in high winds (over 15−20 mph), heavy rain, lightning, or severe weather. If severe weather approaches, evacuate the unit immediately and unplug the blower.
  • No Food or Drink: Keep all food, drinks, gum, candy, and silly string away from all equipment. Silly string causes permanent damage to vinyl and will result in a damage fee.
  • Report Damage: If you notice any damage, tears, or deflation issues, stop use immediately and contact State of Fun at 763-238-3835 or 952-239-8566.

2. Inflatable Operation Instructions (Bounce Houses, Slides, Obstacle Courses)

  • Capacity: Do not exceed the posted weight or participant limit for the inflatable. Group participants by size and age.
  • Entrance/Exit: Participants must enter and exit the unit feet first.
  • Prohibited Items: No shoes, glasses, sharp objects, toys, pets, or loose items (keys, jewelry) inside the inflatable.
  • Bouncing Safely: No roughhousing, wrestling, flips, climbing on walls/netting, or diving headfirst. Participants must stay away from the entrance and walls.

3. Game & Equipment Instructions

A. Non-Inflatable Games Operation: Follow the basic rules of the game. For throwing games, ensure the throwing line is respected and that no one stands in the target area.

B. Special Equipment (Popcorn, Cotton Candy, Snow Cone Machines):  Review Manual:

  • Consult the specific instruction manual provided with the machine before operation.
  • Food Safety: Wash hands thoroughly before operating. Only use food-grade ingredients. Keep serving areas clean.
  • Heat & Moving Parts: Be aware of hot surfaces (popcorn kettle) and moving parts (cotton candy spinner). Only an adult should operate these machines.
  • Cleaning: Machines must be emptied of excess Sugar (Cotton Candy), Popcorn (Popcorn Machine) and any other excess consumables. Deep clean will be performed by State of Fun.

4. Generator Operation (Powering Equipment)

Use only if you have rented a generator from State of Fun.

A. Safety First

  • Ventilation: Generators must be placed outdoors and at least 20 feet away from any doors, windows, or vents to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Refueling: Never refuel a hot or running generator. Turn the unit OFF and allow it to cool for several minutes before adding fuel.
  • Grounding: Ensure the generator is sitting on a dry, level surface.
  • Power Cord: Use the proper heavy-duty power cords provided or recommended by State of Fun.

B. Starting the Generator

  1. Check Oil & Gas: Ensure the gas tank is adequately filled and the oil level is correct.
  2. Open Fuel Valve: Move the fuel/gas shut-off valve to the ON or OPEN position.
  3. Choke (Cold Start Only): If the engine is cold, move the choke lever to the CHOKE position. If the engine is already warm, leave the choke open.
  4. Start Engine: Pull the starter cord until the engine starts.
  5. Open Choke: Once the engine is running smoothly, slowly move the choke lever back to the RUN or OPEN position.
  6. Plug In: Plug in the extension cord(s) for your equipment. 1 Blower, per breaker.

C. Shut Down

  1. Unplug: Disconnect all devices from the generator's outlets.
  2. Turn Off: Turn the main generator power switch to OFF.
  3. Close Fuel Valve: Move the fuel/gas shut-off valve to the OFF or CLOSED position.
